Acute Pancreatitis

  • Enzyme converting starch to maltose
  • Ca2+ and Cl‐ ions activate
  • Secreted by pancreas and salivary glands.
  • Normal value → 50-120 U/L
  • Acute pancreatitis → ↑ 1000 times
    • Peaks 5-12 hours after onset
    • Returns to normal by 2-4 days.
  • Mod ↑ → Chronic pancreatitis, Mumps, Pancreatic duct obstruction.
  • Converts triglyceride to monoglyceride and FA
  • Present in pancreatic secretion
  • Highly ↑ → Acute Pancreatitis
    • Persists 7-14 days.
  • Not increased in mumps - more specific than amylase for acute pancreatitis.
  • Mod ↑ → CA Pancreas, Peptic ulcer, Biliary diseases.
