- Normal value
- 13-35U/L in males
- 10-30U/L in females
- In liver diseases ALT increased more than AST
- Acute hepatitis – 300-1000 U/L
- Chronic Liver diseases ( Cirrhosis, Hep C, Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis)– 50-100 U/L
- Normal → 40-125 U/L
- Moderate ↑ – Hepatic diseases (infective hepatitis, hepatocellular carcinoma)
- Very high ↑ (10-12 times) –Extrahepatic obstruction (d/t gallstones or CA of head of pancreas)
- Drastic ↑ (10-25 times) – Bone diseases like Paget's, Rickets ,Osteomalacia ,etc.
- 5’ nucleotidase enzyme, Normal value → 2-10 U/L
- Moderate ↑ - Hepatitis
- Highly elevated – Biliary obstruction
- Enzyme used for synthesis of glutathione
- Normal value → 10-30 U/L
- Moderate ↑ – Infective hepatitis and prostate cancer
- Used to detect alcohol abuse
